This is important information for Apple users.... they always think they are immune from Hackers... but i think those days are gone Special Thanks  to John DL Arendsen for a very informative post!

I Was Recently Hacked & Spammed

On my MacBook Air I thought Impossible

Yesterday, in what I thought was an innocent Adobe Flash update turned out to be some pretty pesky malware that wreaked havoc with my MacBook Air until I took it to the Genius Bar at a local Apple Store.

Just a word to the wise. Be very careful what you upload or even update and be especially careful to look at your address bar before you open anything. This I forgot to do and it really messed up my day.

Below in red is just one of the websites that kept popping up and wouldn't allow me to open anything unless I first opted to open it and begin a so called cleansing of my computer.

This I obviously refused to do. But within moments up popped another unrelated chat line from what I thought was Apple. The chatter informed me that I had been spammed and that I needed to talk to a technician who would be phoning me immediately. How they ever got my phone number I do not know.

Below is the address to the so called Apple support site I mentioned above. It is not active but if it or anything that doesn't look like the links at the bottom of this post below should ever pop up on your computer please don't open it unless you have a free day to spend at the Apple store.

The so called phone technician spoke with an Indian accent and told me that I had to download some software to protect my computer and information. He then started asking me some pretty sensitive questions.

I immediately smelled a rat and at the same time looked at the address bar and noticed that it was phony, told him he was a scammer and hung up. But that didn't keep the malware from totally infecting my laptop so much so that I couldn't open or do anything without all the pop ups interfering and blocking me almost every time.

I took it to the genius bar at my local Apple store and the real Apple tech informed me that this was a very pervasive and infectious scam and lots of folks had been impacted by it. He then asked me if I had given any info at all and I said no. Thank God. Had I given him any personal info that could have been disastrous.

He also informed me that Apple NEVER, NEVER, NEVER calls anyone. So if you ever do receive an unsolicited phone call from Apple that you didn't initiate hang up. Also if you don't see or that starts out with a green in the address bar as shown in the photo above and a locked lock icon in front of it by all means don't open it. It's a scam.

Hello Debra

This is a great reblog and even though Apple is run by Beta vs Flash-drive Vegas Bob still knows hackers can get through.

This is a great reminder towards Apple users that think their indestructible!

Anyone can be compromised.  But the fact remains that most viruses are written for pc's because they are more popular than macs.  Eventually that will change.
