Bay Realty Blog: Merle Haggard -- Okie From Muskogee

Merle Haggard -- Okie From Muskogee

I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee, / A place where even squares can have a ball / We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse, / And white lightnin's still the biggest thrill of all… Merle Haggard

I am not from Oklahoma.... but we loved this song... back in the day... we would drive to Oklahoma to get beer on Sundays... we could not  buy beer on Sundays in Kansas then...

I know some people say they dont like country music... but they probably havent listened to it.

Country Music Tells a story...

We lost a good one today Merle Haggard.... A Real Story teller

Good morning Debra Leisek . I heard about that on the news yesterday. I do not watch the news or TV for that matter. I heard it as I was passing through the den. Sad day for Country Music folks.

I tried to delete the one and load another one  but I cannot get it done... I evidently am not blessed with the knowledge of how this system works.. I dont have the time to mess with it.. deleting a video is harder than putting one on... but thank you!!  I appreciate you Robert Vegas Bob Swetz

Mere Haggard and I shared the same name.  Mine was just spelled differently!

Posted by Myrl Jeffcoat, Greater Sacramento Real Estate Agent (GreatWest Realty) almost 2 years ago

You have the more exotic spelling Myrl Jeffcoat !!!

Posted by Debra Leisek ( Bay Realty,Inc Homer Alaska) almost 2 years ago

I understand that my spelling is probably more celtic in origin.  The translation is "shining sea."  But the spelling "Merle" translates to black bird.  Folks sometimes say to me, "Is that like Myrl/Merle down on the farm?"  And, I always respond that I'm not that kinda Myrl.

That is very interesting... I thought it might be of a different origin...Celtic it is!
