President Obama Came to Alaska…Homer Alaska

President Obama made the trip to Alaska this week and like all people who see Alaska for the first time, he seemed to be quite impressed. He got to see quite a bit of our beautiful state in a short amount of time. Air Force one landed at JBEAR Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Airforce Base, then came to Anchorage in the longest ever motorcade and attended the Glacier Conference. He had dinner at Alice Rogoff’s  home on Lake Campbell. He stayed at the Captain Cook Hotel Breakfast at the Snow City Café… where he opted for stickybuns and pastries over the Barakli Obamlet or Kale to the Chief special dishes prepared in his honor! He autographed a little boys book.

Seward Highway Alaska

Day 2 he went to Seward and walked a well-traveled path of Exit Glacier with Bear Grylls of Reality TV show running wild with Bear Grylls He went out on a boat out of Seward. He got the tour of Glaciers and the beautiful waters of Resurrection Bay and he saw a Whale.

He danced with the children in Dillingham. The children were surprised and happy He got to meet Iditarod Musher John Baker and his Blue Eyed Puppies. He held one named Feathers and got a Iditarod coat he seemed happy about.  He held an Alaskan Salmon who surprised him with something he had never experienced before.

He walked in the Rain in Kotzbue ( No Umbrella!) and talked about Climate Change to a captive audience. He told them we may finally be getting an Ice Breaker built Russia has 40 and they are building 11. We have 1. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/09/02/usa-obama-alaska-idUSL1N1170BA20150902

He Gave Denali back its name… and probably got to fly over it and see it in all its splendor!

He met the people, he shook their hands and hugged some babies and in general, people were grateful to him for his visit and he was gracious in his outreach to each community. He left as he came…on Airforce one and took all the black cars and secret service guys with him.

I was proud of Alaskans. They welcomed the President with open arms and big smiles! And other than the environmentalists (hello… he is on your side) there were no protests or adverse issues or politics

President Obama did say he would come back and bring his family, when he could stay longer and enjoy

more of this gorgeous state!  He was amazed by the beauty of Alaska!

He didn’t come to Homer… maybe next time!

that is very interesting Bruce Hicks  did you know him or of him? I think he enjoyed his trip to Alaska...one person mentioned Obama kept calling the lower 48 (as we call it ) the mainland (as you Hawaiians call it)

Thank you!

Hello Debra ... what a great post my friend, and whether a person really likes President Obama or they don't I am sure he was amazed by Alaska

Maybe all this hype that Alaska Bob has been posting along with photos & videos for the last year lit a fire under his rear end to visit Alaska.

Lin and her boys were so excited when they saw his limo in Anchorage, they have only live in America for 4 years now and they love this stuff

Maybe next time he visits with his family, we can show him some real Estate in Homer

Thank you Robert (Alaska Bob) Swetz   Yes politics stood still in Alaska during His visit.  He enjoyed his visit and we did too! I am sure if he had seen any of your photos or blogs it would have spurred his visit to our great state!  And yes he does need to come to Alaska!
