Where did the Fireweed go? Homer Alaska

What Happened to the Fireweed?  Fireweed is beautiful and ominous all at the same time... Fireweed as it blooms and begins to cover the land with its Bright magenta color is so pretty but we know at the same time that means winter is coming... Alaskans say by the time it blossoms to the top and then turns to cotton winter is 6 weeks away.

However this year we didn't really get the full blooms of fireweed... there are plenty of plants out there that never bloomed... and the ones that did don't seem to be producing cotton...

which looks like snow when it blows in the fall wind at the end of the season....

So what does that mean?   No Winter? I doubt it... but it does give us hope for a long Indian summer !

Alaska, if it wasn't so dang cold in the winter, I might consider moving there. It is beautiful country.

Debra - It has been a really unusual year weather wise across all of the United States.  Some chalk it up to La Nina, or El Nino.  Whatever the cause, I think we are all ready for a more normal pattern.  The only good thing for my area has been the milder than usual Summer.  But our winter went on forever!

Your area is so beautiful, I enjoy seeing it through your camera..  I hope you get your Indian Summer and a mild winter.  I could not  imagine living there in winter.   Its been so hot here, it would be nice to have some cooler weather.
