Bay Realty Blog: Senator Ted Stevens Legacy is the 49th Star in the American Flag.

Senator Ted Stevens Legacy is the 49th Star in the American Flag.

Senator Ted Stevens Legacy is the 49th Star in the American Flag.

His family issued this statement and it is true.

It is fact. Ted Stevens touched Alaska and Alaskans in every possible way.

His life's work was Alaska's great fortune.

Without Senator Ted there are many places in Alaska that would not have running water, electricity or roads.

If you have never been to Alaska you can not understand how Vast it is and the challenge it is to live here...

It is beautiful and awe-inspiring but it is tough.

Senator Ted made our lives easier; He was the Trail Blazer to mark and ensure Alaska's Future.

He is our champion, our warrior our friend.

"They sent me here," he once said simply, "to stand up for the state of Alaska."

"My motto has been here: To hell with politics, just do what's right for Alaska," he told the Senate in a farewell address in November 2008.

It is hard to say goodbye to this larger than life Alaskan Hero ....who always put Alaska first...

His family will grieve him and we Alaskans will grieve him as our own... our Uncle Ted.

Senator Ted Stevens Legacy is the 49th Star in the American Flag.

Debra, I saw this on the news, my prayers go out to his family, and to the other families who lost love ones in this crash.

Debra - Alaska is massive and massively beautiful. It takes special people to live there and even more special people to represent them.

Debra - I find it so incredibly ironic that both Stevens and his first wife died in separate plane crashes.  Interestingly enough, my sister and her husband lived in Alaska for 27 years.  My brother-in-law was involved in a plane crash up there in the 1970s.  It took rescue teams 4 days to get him out.  He did considerable damage to himself, and suffers some of the effects of it to this day.

Thank You Mike...Alaska is so unique...

Myrl...Yes Ted Stevens survived that crash with a broken back.  I am glad your brother-in-law made it.. we do have many planes go down and some survive to tell the tale.. In the 70's there were probably more planes than cars here... our road system still leaves a lot to be desired.. Ted Stevens is the reason we have roads, hospitals, running water and so much more... thanks you for sharing your families story
