Bay Realty Blog: Moose Monday... A little closer this time....

Moose Monday... A little closer this time....

It is snowing again... our winter has arrived and there is no turning back... it is snowing right now... but Winter in Alaska is beautiful ... and with the snow comes the snow machines and the cross country skiing and the dark winter nights with stars and northern lights... it is peaceful in the winter... there are plenty of things to do in the winter... and with the snow we get more and more guests thru the yard.... Peacefully grazing all the way......I don't need a zoom lens today!

Wow, I grew up in Northern MN and we used to have them wander into Duluth.  They are huge.  :-)

I take your word for it!  Nearly 70 degrees yesterday here in Virginia.  Not quite prepared yet for winter.

Great photo - moose flank steaks are the yummiest wild game I've ever had.

I live in Northern NH and Moose are a frequent site... Love to see them, we are able to get good close up's without zooms as well...

I love to see moose. Unfortunately the closest are about 1,000 miles away. We do have deer, lots of them. I had about a dozen in my backyard this morning.

Debra -

Visited Homer & the Kenai Peninsula in 2002 - absolutely one of my all-time favorite vacations. We drove down from Anchorage and stayed in Homer for a few days. We took a water taxi across the bay and hiked over on the other side - Gracie Trail if you've been over there. Then traversed around and stayed in Seward a couple days. Hiked to the top of Exit Glacier and saw the Harding Ice Field. Can't wait to make it back one of these days.

One of my favorite photos is of a family of moose hanging out in front of the McDonald's in Homer :-) I'll have to see if I have it scanned.

Hey Eric... sounds like you had a great time and hit some great spots.... thanks so much for checking out my site and stop in and visit if you get to Homer

Debra, that is sort of cool that the moose get so close to you, I would think that it is also a little frightening.

I never cross the line with the moose... they know they are safe here and I do not disturb them... we all get along pretty good! thanks

I'll met you don't cross that line!  It would be a little scary driving in Moose country, tho!

Wow, and I was all excited today because I saw a woodpecker!!!  Great photos from both you and Caron.  I wonder if she put it on the Moose Monday group?

Debra - Down here in Los Angeles & Ventura counties, the only wild life we get to see are the animals on the 405 during rush hour.  I assure you, they're just as scary.  LOL

Anyway, thx for sharing the incredible shot of your yard visitors.  It must be wonderful living in such an environment.

Hello everyone... sorry it took me so long to getback here... I hope Caron did put that on Moose Monday I should let her know... that is a gorgeous picture... and I have to agree that LA is scarier to me than a moose in the yard... I will even take the bear over LA drivers!
