Homer Alaska Sandhill Cranes....
Sandhill Cranes are long legged beautiful creatures... You just have to stop and watch them fly over you when they make their graceful approach...honking sometimes to announce their arrival, they are fascinating to watch.....Cranes love to Dance and when they get going it is a sight to see...
In Homer Alaska we have a 200 plus population of Sandhill Cranes during the season... they come up to the northland to breed... late September they begin their flight back down to the warmer lower 48

In winter, the cranes spend time in central California near Lodi.
Homer's own Cranes will be at San Joaquin Valley in plenty of time for the annual Lodi, California, Sandhill Crane Festival, scheduled for November 6-8, 2009. The Lodi festival is much like the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival in Homer Alaska held in early May. Crane arrival information is recorded and celebrated on both ends of the cranes' journey.

What a beautiful bird. I took some photos of a blue heron the other day and then saw him again today. I think you saw him in the name that photo post. Today I saw him again at the same pond but he was up in a tree. So cool.
they are way cool... and i think they are related in some way... the cranes and the herons.. I love to watch them fly across the sky but also when they are on the ground and dancing with those big ole long legs they are a sight to see... thanks I didnt think anyone was going to comment on this one at all and it was kind of sad!
I wish I could be there. They look so beautiful. I love birds and Alaska. Hope you enjoy it.
thank you Liz... I do enjoy living here... even in the winter! it is beautiful thanks for looking!
