Moose Monday....Dewlap Winner of the Week! Anchor Point Alaska

What is a Dewlap you might ask.... well a Dewlap looks like a beard .... This guy has an extreme dewlap....

The official definition would be a fold of hair-covered skin called a "dewlap" or "bell" under the chin

He looks healthy and really good... made it thru hunting season

I am always glad when hunting season is over and the moose come back to my valley!

Monday Moose.... A favorite Moose moment!

Momma Moose and her twins were back... eating my bushes, alders and willows....

Messing with the windmill... playing with each other...

Mom had her eye on me the whole time but we have a certain trust level...

We know our boundaries and we respect them...

I sat on my Deck and took these pictures...

It was certainly one of my all time favorite Moose Moments!

This weekend has been a Moose wonderful time in Anchor Point Alaska

I have been surrounded by moose...

The Momma Moose and her Twins...

And then another Moose with one Baby... very small and very aloof

But the Twins were not shy... they were fighting with my windmill...

Fighting over the drain pipe in the yard

Fighting over mom...

It was very fun to watch them... all the while Mom ate and ate

Then they laid down and made my yard their campground for the night

Mt Redoubt Volcano is Steaming.... Anchor Point Alaska

We had a pretty big earthquake the other day 6.7 on the Richter scale...

the center was out in the ocean... but it might have woke the mountain up

She was puffing pretty good this morning and has been steady all day... 

As long as it stays steam we are okay...

Hope it doesn't blow ash and ruin this beautiful Summer and Midnight Sunsets!

Bitter sweet for Alaskans as we start losing Daylight now.... 

But let's enjoy the Sun and the Moon for now...

Moose Monday.....Mother Moose and Baby Update in Anchor Point Alaska

Mother and Child are doing well...

Finally they came back to My Valley below to eat, drink and rest.

I knew you would all want to see they are doing fine

Mother Nature is Alive and Well in Anchor Point Alaska....

This has been the year of the sunsets and now we are getting some glorious Sunrises too

Here was the sunset the night before... at 10:30 PM...

We are still gaining Daylight!

 Summer Solstice will occur at 3:28 a.m. Alaska Daylight Time on June 21,2010

It must be time for Moose to be out and About! 

Driving home tonight I saw 7 count them 7 Moose!

They were all grazing

Ducking from  Cars

One guy pulled over to take pictures and the Troopers pulled over,

made him move his car and get out of the water with the moose!

Now that is the picture I wish I could have shared with you

But the Trooper was in no mood to have us both stopped on the Highway!

Sunday Visitor...Hummingbirds Anchor Point Alaska

Isn't it amazing that a creature this small can come all the way from Mexico to Alaska

 Visit for a couple of days and then fly back?

This little Humming Bird was here at my home this weekend....
